(From Duane Gomer’s Newsletter today (Monday, November 23, 2015))
NMLS recently sent an email listing the deadlines for doing your endorsement for this year.
- Your SMART deadline is Saturday, December 19th (complete it by this date and you are guaranteed renewal)
- Your At-Risk-to-Miss Renewal Deadline is Saturday, December 26th (you are now betting on the NMLS staff)
- Your guaranteed to Miss Renewal Deadline is Thursday, December 31st.
Do it now; remember if you are taking a course after today that you must allow your education company 7 days to “bank” your hours so the true deadline is December 12th.
MLO’S; MISSED YOU AT THE NAR CONVENTION IN SAN DIEGO
Worth the trip for me as I made one good connection. There was a TRID panel, and it was excellent. One of the panelists was Patricia (Tricia) McClung, an authority from our beloved Consumer Finance Protection Bureau. She discussed the forms which her department designed giving good insights for their intent.
She also highlighted one item that I have been stressing in my classes. Give out the Home Loan Tool Kit to Agents and Consumers. It has excellent information and yet in my classes many of the students have never seen it. It replaces the Supplemental Booklet, is shorter, and makes a valuable handout for MLO’s and Real Estate Agents.
CFPB had a booth at the Expo and gave out copies of the 25 page booklet to everyone who stopped. Just think, you could have visited their booth and talked to real, live, nice people from an Agency that is extremely important to our future. Added bonus, the center is close to the San Diego Gas Lamp District so a good time was had by all.
The opening sentence on the kit states, “Buying a home is exciting and let’s face it, complicated. This booklet is a toolkit that can help you make better choices along your path to owning a home.” Pretty powerful start.
Topics include among others; choosing the best mortgage for you, understand your credit, pick the mortgage type – fixed or adjustable that works for you, choose the right down payment, understand the trade-off between points and interest rates, shop with several lenders, choose your mortgage, avoid pitfalls, handle problems, shop for mortgage closing services, review your revised loan estimate, understand and use your Closing Disclosure, and a final section on owning your home. Good stuff with an assumed government seal of approval.
Learned one other excellent tip from the visitors from Washington. You can use BRAND Tool Kits with your logo. Increases the value of any booklets you or your agent friends hand out. For information go to www.cfpb.gov and in the search bar put, Branding home loan tool kits and then follow the prompts. You will be glad you did.
Thank you Patricia and company. Hope you enjoyed your stay in beautiful downtown San Diego. Appreciated your information.
BTW, the introduction of the new Loan Forms has not been the destruction of the world as we know it like many soothsayers were predicting. The word that I heard the most from the panel members and others at the Convention was, “Smooth or smoothly.” As Dr. Pangloss said in Candide, “This is the best of all possible worlds.” See you in class.
